YouTube and video

How a video becomes a citation
Assistants do not watch video. They retrieve the text around it: transcripts, descriptions, titles, chapters and comments. A demo with an accurate transcript and a structured description is a retrievable text document that happens to have video attached.
That reframes what to make. Tutorials, walkthroughs, comparisons and problem-solving videos generate retrievable text about specific questions. Brand films and launch trailers generate almost none, which is why most SaaS YouTube channels contribute nothing to citations despite real production budgets.
Third-party video matters more than your own. A practitioner review or comparison on someone else's channel carries the same credibility advantage over vendor content that a Reddit thread does, for the same reason.
What the programme actually involves
Transcript and description discipline
Accurate transcripts, real descriptions, chapter markers. This is the entire retrievable surface of a video and it is usually auto-generated and ignored.
Make videos that answer questions
How to do the specific thing, how the tool compares, how to solve the specific problem. Video that answers a question generates text that answers a question.
Support third-party creators properly
Practitioners reviewing your product on their own channels, with access and accuracy support but without editorial control. The independence is the value.
Connect video to the on-site page
Embedding with a real transcript on the page gives the same content two retrievable homes, one of which you control entirely.
What we will not do, and why
This is the part of AI search where buying the outcome is cheapest, most tempting and most damaging. The exposure sits with your brand, not with your advisor, so we would rather be explicit before you buy than after.
Production value is not the lever
A screen recording with an accurate transcript outperforms a polished brand film with an auto-generated one. We would rather you spent the budget on more questions answered.
This is a slow compounding channel
Video accrues citation value over quarters. It is a poor choice if the requirement is movement this quarter.

Review platform strategy
G2, Capterra and GetApp all sit in the ten most-cited domains for B2B SaaS prompts, with G2 second only to Reddit. Assistants treat review marketplaces as structured, comparable, third-party evidence, which is precisely what a vendor's own site cannot be.
Learn moreReddit and community presence
Reddit is the most-cited domain in the analysed set, ahead of G2. Assistants, and ChatGPT in particular, lean on user-generated discussion for software recommendations, because it is where people say what a product is actually like to use.

Five of the ten most-cited domains for B2B SaaS prompts are publishers or analysts: PCMag, TechRadar, Gartner, Forbes and TechCrunch. These are earned placements with long lead times and unusually long half-lives.
